Do First use the exact same recruitment process nationwide or does it slightly differ from each franchise?? FSR or FGW for example??

From what I gather its pretty much the same and all on one First Group system.

I was unsuccessful at DM interview with a position at Oxford for FGW back in February and was eager to apply for the recently advertised trainee positions with TPE.

At first I was incorrectly informed I could apply, as I queried it with the FGW recruitment via email before I even started the process but then soon turned out I could not as the first 2 questions asked:

Have you previously applied for the role of Trainee Train Driver with FirstGroup?

Answered - Yes

Next question:
Was this within the last 6 months?

Answered - Yes

To then get the following message show:
As you've already been through the selection process for the role of Trainee Train Driver within the last 6 months we are unable to progress your application at this time. Please reapply when you are eligible to do so.

I again queried this with FGW recruitment and got the following response:

Apologies, this is on the new system we are introducing and I didn't realise that it would actually bar you from applying. As this message has come up then you would need to be honest as First Transpennine would be able to look at the database and see your assessment dates anyway.

Apologies for the conflicting information, you will be able to apply again from 13th August 2014.

So now I now cannot apply for any trainee train driver role with any of First Group ran TOCs until August. :(

I thought that after applying First would sift through the initial applications & elimate more than half, then you are invited in for the GB, psychometric tests etc etc & if you passed them it was then onto the structured interview.......

I now see on their careers page that you now have 3 online assesments/tests then a telephone interview, first Ive heard that, didnt know anything about a telephone interview & not really seen many (if any) folk on here mention it??

Same position, only I only got as far as the second test. The timed letters test just didn't work for me that day and I failed.

But,

Seeing as I only got that far I struggle to see why a six month wait is required.....

With FGW:

Filled out online application;
Completed 2no online assessments;
Telephone Interview;
Stage 1 (GB, Tea-Occ, TRP part 1 and 2, WCT (all paper));
Stage 2 (WAFV, ATAVT, 2 hand co-ordination (all computer) followed by SJE and MMI);
DM Interview [As far as I got];
Medical;
Job Offer.

I've just finished the first two tests: 'SJT' and 'Verify Checking'.

All that I get on the FG website is 'application completed successfully'.

Does anyone know what happens next? I really want to know if I did ok/passed!

Sounds like it to me. Sounds familiar.

As for questions asked, to be fair, just think of the train driver role and the skills and qualities required and adjust your answers to that. In reference to the questions asked think customer service and experience. Also google might help ;)

Great, thankyou :)

The 'matching number/letter sequences' is solid, ha!

Don't hold me to gospel on it, but I'm sure that's how it was for me. I was constantly thinking 'have I really passed that?!' Hahahaha

So wait till you get an email from them before getting your hopes up :)
