Seen on the Flixbus website that the N10 is picking up extra stops in Sheffield and Leicester from November.

Presumably to try and get the service used more?

Or replace the N02 (at stops with custom) that currently follows the same route as National Express service 465?

I don't know what is going on with the prices either, but booking from Glasgow to London on November 12th is showing as £59.99! o_O o_O

I hope that's a mistake as that is just an absolute rip off. That's also a single.

I agree that is steep, the cheapest NX fare that day is £14.90

Who actually sets the fares on Flix? I always had the impression they were more of a "coach travel exchange" with operators operating off their own back as sort-of franchises (actual franchises, not rail-style ones), and so they might set their own fares?

I thought Flixbus set the fares but maybe not

I believe it is a 'franchise' where Flixbus decide on the routes and the fares. Maybe some operator input, but only at a highish level.

Probably because that’s the last day of the big COP26 climate summit in Glasgow and there will be quite high demand for people travelling home from Glasgow

It's not very competitive. As the following screenshot shows, Avanti have a choice of trains in that date from 1434 onwards which all cost less:

The cheapest is £47.20.

That's a high price. I wouldn't pay that much for a coach. I would save my time by taking the train.

Flix Bus is continuing to expand internationally

It has been announced that Flix Mobility has bought Greyhound lines in US from First Group plc

DALLAS & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FlixMobility (“the Company”), global mobility provider of the FlixBus and FlixTrain brands, announced today it has acquired Greyhound Lines, Inc. (“Greyhound”), the largest provider of long-distance bus transportation in the United States, from FirstGroup plc. This acquisition marks another important step in FlixMobility’s vision to provide easy-to-use, affordable, and environmentally friendly travel for consumers across the globe.

The purchase brings together FlixBus’ innovative global technology and shared mobility expertise with Greyhound’s iconic nationwide presence and experience, creating a company that will be better able to service the needs of intercity bus travelers in the U.S. Intercity bus lines were a lifeline during the pandemic for communities and essential workers, and as economies re-open, they will be a tremendous driver for sustainable growth across the country. The FlixBus Global network serves over 2,500 destinations in 36 countries outside of the U.S. with 400,000 daily connections. Greyhound currently connects approximately 2,400 destinations across North America with nearly 16 million passengers each year.

Whilst this is not a First Group thread, there is more detail in the First Group announcement of its financial effects, so including link for reference

Wonder if they will keep the iconic Greyhound livery, or turn them all bright green?

Apparently Corbel have now given up on Flixbus.

Whippets seem to have taken on the 023 trip and Ridleys running a Leicester run.

Another operator down, it'd be great to know what is going on behind the scenes as operators dropping it and Flix don't seem to be encouraging anyone else onto the network. I know I have emailed in once or twice to fish for information but they don't seem to reply so maybe other operators are having the same issues.

3 operators down (BM Coaches, Thandi and Corbel), it's only 18 months in.

Yet Whippets seem to be happy with it - or is it only because they have coaches and drivers after losing Nat Exp work?

Very interesting that Whippets are ok with it. I guess they have more experience with it so know some of the costs and know where passengers are whereas other operators, this is a new venture for them but I would certainly be interested to know the specifics. We all have our ideas what happened/is happening but until a company gives some specifics, I guess we won't know for certain. Thandi apparently couldn't make it pay (in which case, I am interested in which bit couldn't they make work since they already run or did run Thandi Express stuff). BM Coaches did they go into Liquidation? Corbel haven't said anything.

Different operators will have their own cost bases, what’s profitable for one company wouldn’t be for another. For Whippetts, Turners and Ridley’s the majority of the Flixbus fleet have come from the companies pool of vehicles, whereas almost all of Thandis were new vehicles, I’m sure the leasing costs on these vehicles would be high, thus reducing the financial viability of their operations

But don't the Flixbus coaches have a maximum age, in which case it is the difference between getting cash from Flixbus, or getting cash from other contracts/in-house work etc; in either case the leasing charges have to be covered. If Flixbus cash doesn't cover the lease, it doesn't really matter how old the coaches are - the lease costs per year for a 3 year old coach you aready have and a brand new coach are probably much of a muchness.

I have seen, that Berrys of Taunton, are now taking Flixbus bookings on their services, I think its, limited number of Flixbus bookings per service, which at least gives Flixbus, some presence in the south West, I haven’t used Berrys, in a while, so dont know anymore about the Flixbus arrangement.

It seems to be the same arrangement that they have with Megabus in that Flix/Mega are just ticket sales sites for their service (similar to how everyone sells tickets for Greenline)

They had services to bath and run services to Bristol so it's not like theyre new to the South West

They seem to be charging exactly the same fares as if booked direct.

Deerfold, I noticed too that Flixbus fares are not cheaper than Berrys own fares. I suppose this is good in a way, as shows they're not getting sucked into doing unsustainably low fares. I use Berrys sometimes, as they have hostess/steward, and I can pay on the day on the Coach.
