On my way home from liverpool lime street via runcorn
i pass pressure vessels of some soret. they are usually in pairs and sometimes with an accompanying hut.

They do not look operational whatever they are and i guess look older than 30 years.

Any one know what these are?

There is a pair of them at edge hill where the runcorn lines diverge.
There is another pair at weaver junction near the abandonded signal box.

Thx in advance. and sorry i dont jknow what they are called or their purpose :) hence my asking

LPG for point heaters is the usual guess - especially if they are near junctions...

LPG? I thought Point Heaters worked on Electricity!

Not everywhere on the rail network is near a convenient source of electrical power with sufficient capacity to support an electrical heater.

Location
In Retirement.
You also sometimes see tanks on the compressed air system for working points. There is a disused example in the up cess just north of Denbigh Hall South Junction LEC1.
