Why not try to get a move to FL IM? Best of both worlds imo. I know they’ve got a new trainee recruitment freeze on atm, but I believe they’re still taking on qualified drivers at certain depots.

It’s intermodal traffic that’s causing the issues at the minute mate, patiently waiting for a start date.

Yes, I am aware, at least a 12 month freeze on off the street trainees.

But as I said I believe they are still taking on qualified drivers at certain depots and if the person who made the original post main concern is sitting in quarries all day being bored, but enjoys freight overall, then IM may be the perfect compromise.

thank you for the suggestion Venna1. Certainly something to look at.

For those that have read the thread so far that are passenger, would you be able to leave a comment describing a typical day for you, and if you could leave the TOC that would be great but understand if not.

As I said previously I’m South Yorkshire based, so would need to be an hours commute for me. I have to say LNER quite appeals to me

Do LNER take qualifieds? Could be wrong but I think they’re a bit like GTR in that they only take trainees now.

Don't think LNER have taken qualified drivers on for ages, so when they do I imagine there will be a lot of interest. TPE at Sheff or one of the Northern depots would be the most likely place for vacancies.

LNER ( a Government owned entity) refusing to take on Qualified Drivers prevents the proper functioning of the Labour market. Discuss

LNER could probably have the pick of whatever drivers they wanted so why do they go through the cost of training everyone from scratch?

Government incentives to recruit trainees

TPE was the other I had considered to be honest.

Because they can call it an 'apprenticeship scheme' and claim money off the Government for doing so, which is exactly what happens at many other TOCs.

Hi all, the chat about trainees at LNER isn’t particularly relevant to the topic at hand, so please keep discussion around transferring from a freight operator to a passenger operator.

Thanks.
