Good afternoon gents,

Im ex Army and i want to be a freight train driver for DBS because of they are HQ here in Doncaster as well as a Freightliner rail port.
Im used to all the hours ive read about on here already and working conditions.
What i want to know it when is DBS going to recruit again because i have applied for DRS on their recent recruitment drive but after going through all the posts on here about them as a work force and company i think i might cancel and just wait for DBS to recruit again.

Please, if their is anybody with info please reply.

Hello Mate,

My advice would be to hang tight and stay in the running with DRS. I understand that DBS are looking for approximately 100 drivers across all depots but when they will advertise again I don't know. If you get selected by DRS and qualify as a driver you could always apply as a qualified driver. I think your first priority is to get your foot in the door as intakes will vary across different companies and also depots. I hope this helps a little and good luck with your future.

Wanabedriver,
Thanks for the info sounds very apealing to wait out for DB but this is my argument with the mrs about moving to Carlisle then onward to depot, im in the job i can go back to Doncaster... Eventually but with a son and schools i dont want to move too much. My life is complex as is most.
But to hear DB is after aprox 100 drivers... Expanding or sacking?

Expanding I believe. I know that DBS made some driver redundancies a while back, but have been recruiting since late last year. I know a course started in Jan, there is one in May and another in August. I'm guessing there may be another course date this year if they have not got the required quota of trainees. So it may be worth writing a speculative letter to their HR department to see if they will be recruiting again for the depot you want to work at.

Best of Luck Mate

DBS recruited very recently (well, since the start of the year) for trainee drivers. So I shouldn't imagine another batch will be taken on for a few months at least. If I were you, I would stick with DRS for now. Mate of mine is a driver with them and cannot speak highly enough!

Just a little word of advice - change your username and try to remain anonymous in your posts by omitting your identifiable details.

I've no doubt TOC's and FOC's read these forums. If someone from DRS recruitment has read your post it may look like you're not committed and may not stay the distance if you're successful in the application you've made.

Oh, and good luck BTW, whatever you decide to do.
