I am staying in the Travelodge next to Leeds station next month and I have a room overlooking the line, does much freight go through in the night ?

Not a huge amount overnight from what I can see although it does vary according to traffic requirements.

Give us some ideas of dates when you are there and near the time I should have a better idea hopefully.

It seems to be the busiest between 0330 & 0630hrs.

Not much through the station itself but Midland Road is quite near so you could visit there if you wanted.

The only freight I can think of thats booked through the station is are the workings to/from Rylstone Quarry. On an evening it passes through around 2020. Its fairly reliable too, ive seen it almost everytime whenever i go for the Kings X-Skipton. The only other booked freight is fuel for Neville Hill, which runs once a week, on a wednesday, not sure on the times for it.

God, I really need to get people working on this...

It's Swinden Quarry not Rylstone Quarry or Sidings (despite what TRUST says...)

From a railway point of view, the trains originate from Rylstone;
the name of the actual quarry is irrelevant, I'm afraid.

Another example of this are trains from "Peak Forest" to Leeds, Selby,
Bletchley, Ely, etc. The quarry is actually Dove Holes, but the trains
all start from Peak Forest sidings.

...but the best example of all are the various British Gypsum works,
which all seem to be afflicted with this problem:

- Kirkby Thore (trains run to 'Newbiggin')
- East Leake (trains run to 'Hotchley Hill')
- Robertsbridge (trains run to 'Mountfield')
