It is not ridiculous when you look at it in the context of capitalism which is all about encouraging consumption and spending money. If the Halloween (or any) festival is extended then it means people can be encouraged to buy more useless paraphenalia which will get discarded when it is over. We have it with Black Friday which is just another way of getting people to spend money they don't have by extending the pre-Chritsmas spending frenzy by an extra week or three.
From a pure business point of view, then yes it makes sense. From a 'normal' point of view, which doesn't focus on over-consumerism and such like, then no it just makes no sense. In the modern era, we should be discouraging wasteful behaviours, not promoting it!
I could discuss my opinion on Black Friday, but I'll be here a while with that! Let's just say that encouraging people with little money to spend even more than they could ever realistically afford to pay back is ridiculous. I have more views on that, but for the sake of my own sanity I'll steer clear for now!
