GCRN, the heritage line from Ruddington in Nottingham to Loughborough which has been closed for 5 years has announced the first full trip along the line on the 29th December. There's only 2 trips, so book fast, but it's the first for 5 years and likely to be the only trip for some time!

More information here:https://www.trybooking.com/uk/event...SU72_RBCIPJ3d7EzFQ_aem_oRF8OPhiYl8jLbZ9C4Z-2w

Great Central Railway Nottingham, based at the Nottingham Transport heritage Centre are delighted to announce that we are planning to operate our fabulous recently restored Class 107 DMU on Sunday 29th December for two return trips from Ruddington Fields to the A60 Bridge at the Brush Works close to Loughborough – basically, as far south as our line will allow until reunification with our friends at the GCR can be completed.

This will be the first time we have operated a passenger service along our entire 8 miles of track in five years and is not planned to be repeated again in the near future.

Departure times are 11.00 and 13.00. Demand for these trains is sure to be high so please book early on line.

Return Tickets are priced at £18.00 per adult with ‘kids going for a quid’ are available.

Obviously, given the time of year, any trip will be subject to cancellation if weather conditions dictate

What is this word "Twixmas"? 29th December is fully part of the Christmas season - specifically the Fifth Day (as in "Five Gold Rings")

Perhaps it is sponsored by a certain brand of chocolate confectionery?

Both the 11.00 and 13.00 departures have sold out- an extra departure has been put on at 15.00 which still has spaces.

I hadn’t seen the extra train, we booked when it was announced as I hadn’t done the GCRN when it was running before even though it’s pretty local and seeing as how it might be a while till it’s running again it was a case of go for it

Same for me! I also used to volunteer at the miniature railway there. Looking forward to it. :)

Why has the GCRN not been running, and why is it not expected to run again in the near future?

So what did everyone think?
Was really fun, a great journey and was amazing to finally ride the route! The train seemed slightly overbooked so it was a tight squeeze, but it didn't spoil the trip.

It's highly recommend, and I know a number of running days are now planned for 2025. Its a lovely line, especially the lesser used southern bit to Loughborough. There's other attractions at Ruddington too, like the miniature railway. Worth a visit!
