I had heard 2. But my travels today were still on over crowded 153s. The staff are not expecting improvements until after Christmas. “Keep with us. We will be rid of them soon”. Can’t happen quickly enough.

This was 156418 at Stowmarket on 7th Dec , totally unsuitable for the number of passengers intending to travel

They can't be coupled to EMR units due to different public address equipment.

What? Is that correct?

Flipping heck, can't believe that you lose all your flexibility to schedule units together over something so trivial.

And when you say EMR units do you mean just 156s or 153s and 158s as well?

This is correct, They can't be attached to any existing EMR 15x units.

They can couple to class 153 but not 156/8 apparently. They have class 170 PA and call for aid interfaces which aren't compatible with the ex EMT fleet.

Does that mean that, in theory, they'd be able to work in multiple with the 170s EMR will receive?

The call for aid feature on them is hilarious. Never mind not sounding in another unit if activated, they don't always sound in both cabs of the unit concerned & are not linked to the brakes. They've not worked properly since the units where refurbished & the tacky system installed.

EMR 156909 is in service today on the Nottingham - Skegness route as seen here before I boarded the 07.31 in Nottingham. 20191228_072716.jpg
