So yesterday I bought some standard class advance tickets..if I go back to Liverpool Street can I get them 'upgraded' to 1st class by only paying the difference?

The tickets are for Stratford to Sheringham, 12/8.

If you go back to where you bought them and it's before the date of travel you can upgrade for the difference between the fare you paid and the lowest 1st class advance fare available + £10 (per ticket).

I do believe you can do that.

Looking at the date of August 12th for Stratford (London) to Sheringham the fares are as follows :

Standard class £8.00 to £16.00
First class £12.00 to £19.00

What time have you booked for your departure from Stratford?

10 quid? Bugger that. I only paid £8 for the blummin tickets, not paying £25.50 extra for first class. (They're child tickets).

The 0838 from Stratford and the 1900 from Norwich is what I've booked.

12/8 is a Sunday. Weekend First upgrade will be available.

I believe that it is £14 each way between Stratford and Norwich. There is no 1st Class accommodation between Norwich and Sheringham.

Weekend First? Upgrade for £14 each way, eh? Does the child discount apply on that?

Hang on, GA website:

Even if you have already bought a Standard Class ticket, you can still upgrade to First Class by simply paying the difference between the Standard and First Class fare prior to travel.

I'll assume that means for the ticket I purchased, not the cost when I go back to the ticket office..

No child discount on Weekend First.

Also the information on GA's website doesn't make it clear that a change to an Advance Purchase ticket incurs a £10 administration fee plus any difference in fares.

If upgrading a walk-up ticket from Standard to First then you do merely pay the difference.

According to the GA Twitter team today, the 1st class upgrade ticket is going to be re-instated with a suitable replacement in September. Obviously, a cynic would note a small local sporting event will be taking place shortly and will end in........ September. (And let's not mention the 15% increase in off peak tickets on some lines effective last Sunday).
