I'm hoping to be there at least one day. Always like the GCR diesel gala, and even better is that every year so far I've managed to get a discounted ticket since I'm a member of the northern group at Ruddington, even though technically we shouldn't get discounts. The use of the parental hotel and taxi service makes it even better (the latter being in particular useful since parking is a pain at Loughborough, so I being able to avoid driving there is useful).

I know it is. Why do you think I'm taking the train this time? ;)

Looking forward to 25035 again, and i havnt had 33116 for twelve years

Early start for the 0915 off Loughboro, need Central to actually be running a service from Birmingham in the morning!

D4067 is actually a Class 10...afraid I cannot answer whether you will be able to have it or not, but suspect the answer may be no. Sounds a rather good event.

The Class 10 is not booked to work any trains and will be able to be seen tootling about at Rothley performing shunt release. If your lucky you may be able to see it running light loco to and from Rothley.

Roster for Friday and Saturday now up on the GCR web site. Looks good, loads of trains and really pleased to see the rodents out all day on proper trains rather than shuttles.

I've been advised D5185 passed its air tank inspection last week, so should be all systems go for the event.

Just a quick note that anyone coming from Birmingham can save themselves a little by rebooking at Leicester.
There is no Brum-Loughborough CDR (although there used to be i'm sure?)
so its a SVR at £13.60
or... Brum-Leicester CDR £7.60 plus Leicester-Loughborough CDR £3.60
(all fares before any discounts)

Just relying on Central not to screw up, i'm hoping to make the 0915 rat.
Saves a few pennies, more for the donation boxes!

The 25 failed today. I was coming in behind the 31 and we got held outside loughborough for quite a while, and then the 37 came thrashing out pulling the train that should have been the 25. When we arrived at Loughborough we were told the 25 had failed. The 45 took over from the 37s workings and then took over from the 25 on the beerexs, which was a shame, but I do like Peaks, although even on a 6Mk1+CCT rake it was really held back (few seconds of thrash, then practically cruise to the next station), wheras the 25 would have had a tougher job, and therefore givern a more interesting performance. I gather it was a problem with the vacume brake on the 25, and that it's been fixed and should be in service tommorow.

I have to say that this was a thoroughly enjoyable day, really good. The highlight of the day for me was probably the double-headed 25's, the 20's were pretty decent as well. :)

Just a thumbs up and thank-you to everybody involved with GCR who was part of it, Tomnick, 'one trip' Nick, Chaz and the rest.

A good event, even though it got off to a shaky start with three round trips from L'boro-Rothley caped in the morning and some rostering changes. Special thanks to those who got D5185 fixed in time for today after its failure yesterday.

Good to meet Yorkie and a few others (sorry, can't remember you all after he rattled thru with some introductions!) briefly on the kettle between Loughboro and Quorn where I got off. Hope you enjoyed your lunches - I had the all day breakfast behind the pair of 25s and it was to the usual high standards I've had there before.

Stayed for the first 'beerex' with D6535 and D5185 which was quite loud too!

A brief summary: first 101 of the day caped, lack of path, first 20 train of the day 20 mins down, stock was still in the sidings, couple of roster changes, before things settle down nicely.

Back to normal until 1210 departure, CIG is busted with leaky air pipes and a leaky roof - cue the replacement - 33 hauling the 101 dead! That was rammed. 31 star of the show in terms of surprising runs, on load 8 and going like the clappers - it's a Ped, it shouldn't have done that! Ratties fantastic, specially on the double header. CIG fixedish for the 1510, still leaking in both ways but usable, then on the steamer back to Lough for the 37 to Leicester and back - fantastic run, that 37 is a great machine. Parcels set lacked pidgeon van and parcels carriages, brake failures on all apparently, so down to two Mk1s.

20s: Nice ride, go like stink with that torque
25s: Brilliant, 5185 very loud, 25265 very smoky.
31: pulled off a surprisingly sprightly run on load 8
33: interesting hauling the 101 and the CIG - decent ride
37: loud. very loud.
45: Only had it on load 2! still, clagging and roaring away.
47: best duff I think I've rode on, really gets shifting.
CIG: Leaky, but nostalgic.
101: Only had it hauled, but I imagine it would have been smoky and vibrating as ever.
8F: Kettle.
lamiel: Interesting only cause it moved.

The 101 had a Routemaster engine in ;). I did that behind the 33 and on it's own, I did the CIG behind the 33, did the 31 a couple of times as with the 33! Also got front window behind the pair of 25s, and started off with the pair of 20s. I was also on the crawling kettle :). I never got to do the 37/45/47 :(. Neither of them were about much!

It was a brilliant day, although I had a shaky start getting there! Thanks to all that work there for making the day enjoyable, and it was great meeting other forum members again! I look forward to visiting again when there's another gala!

P.s what actually happens if you get caught without a ticket?

You either pay on the train or you are thrown off at the next stop.
I saw the 45 at least 4 times! and rode on it twice

1. You pay on the train if the TTI has the facility to do so
2. Let's say it's a Gala day with trains every 15 minutes or so, you get off at the next, buy a ticket and then board another train.
3. You give your name and address to the TTI and the outstanding fare will be billed to your house. (More complex than that I think).
4. Finally, if you all that fails you leave GCR property at the next station and if you refuse the Police will give you a free taxi ride. ;)
