As per last year, the GC is running a gala aimed very much at the enthusiast as well as the general public. There are 7 steam locomotive plus two diesels scheduled. 5 different freight trains plus a passenger carrying parcels train...in addition to the regular passenger trains, will make for an intensive operation.

This event should also see the return to service following overhaul of 8F 48305. Amongst the seven locos in steam, there are two 8F's and a 9F scheduled to be in service...

A bit late for this year but the GCR should try and re-create a small section of the Grimsby-Whitland fish train next year.
Members old enough to remember the fish trains will never forget them. I remember cycling to Rothley and when you arrived you could tell if the train had already passed.
Combine the event with Fish and Chips in the restaurant car and Butler Henderson/Ellis Tea rooms.

I had to change a brake shoe yesterday.....

The old one on the ground was "excessively worn". This was an urgent job to get the wagon fit to run on Sunday for the Gala.

Here are the rake of Windcutter wagons at the Gala yesterday.

It was a very busy event with about 27 departures from Loughborough each day!
