Today (Sunday) the GEML was booked to be closed between Ipswich and Marks Tey due to engineering work. At start of service NR extended this through to Witham so the bus services had to be ad-hoc(ly) extended from Marks Tey. Also the Clacton to Colchester (rail) service was planned to connect with the bus services at Colchester (North). Again it was discovered this morning that these trains could only run as far as Colchester Town. Passengers have been advised to catch scheduled First Essex bus services between Colchester Town and Colchester (North) to complete their journeys. The whole thing seems to have been a spectacular mess and social media not surprisingly has been full of disgruntled passengers! What a way to run a railway!

Worth a mention for the Rail Replacement Bus Supervisors who had to re-jig the whole plan on the hoof and set up at Witham with no warning. They were doing an excellent job keeping a large number of people moving, some of whom were not, as you can imagine, entirely happy.

I don't doubt that staff on the ground and doing the twitter feed at the ROC were doing their best.
