I'm pretty sure that they're all commemorated by J D Wetherspoon pubs.

IK Brunel - Portsmouth
Nigel Gresley - Swadlincote
WG Grace - Bristol
Norman Wisdom - Deal
John Masefield - this one I don't know! Edit: It's apparently in New Ferry, Merseyside!

You got it ! The John Masefield is the only one of those I've actually been to.

Your soulless drinking barn.

Thanks - that's a bit harsh on JDW, although in some ways I do understand what you mean.

Anyway, moving on ….

What was built at Bilboa, Duluth and Widnes, but not built at Tancarville, Poole and Dublin?

With Widnes in the list, I suspect it might be transporter bridges, but not sure about the 'not built' bit.

Your suspicions are correct; they are all actual or proposed transporter bridges - well done.

Bilboa was the first (built 1893), Duluth was built in 1905 (although it was converted into a lift bridge in 1929) and Widnes & Runcorn (also built 1905, but demolished 1962). The proposed projects which weren't built were (amongst others) at Tancarville, France (1897), Poole Harbour (1904 / 1905) and Dublin (1928). I'd recommend a new book - "Transporter Bridges" by John Hannavy - if you want to know more.

Your interesting method of crossing the water, sir!

Thanks for that; to continue a 'connecting' theme....

What connects the following:-
a) Monty Python's Flying Circus;
b) Gus Grissom (Mercury Astronaut);
c) Philadelphia?

Is it to do with the Liberty Bell, as Monty Python theme music is Libery Bell march, Liberty Bell in Philadelphia,

not sure about Gus Grissom - was he born in a town called Liberty ?

Spot on. I put Gus Grissom as Mercury astronaut as his Mercury capsule was given the name of Liberty Bell; all the Mercurys were given names. I could have added Romford to the list, with a Liberty Bell pub.

well done, your floor.

Is it along the lines that the lyrics contain reference to another song - eg Boh Rhap has Mama Mia inside it, or to another artiste - e. Space Oddity has Major Tom inside it.

I don't know about 'Teen Spirit' but 'Space Oddity' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' were both quite long (5 mins plus) compared with most pop songs of the time. Was there something special about how the records were produced? What was once called 'EP' or 'Extended Play'?
