Two questions I wanted ask actually.

1. I was reading this post, and was wondering, since 2017 has now been and gone, did anything ever come of that 2012 legislation and if so, all of it or just certain aspects of it?

2. Whether or not that legislation has been implemented at all in any form, what would most likely happen in the following scenario?

Someone catches the last bus from Scunthorpe to Hull, and as the bus passes through the countryside between villages, some idiot from the nearest village throws a brick through a window, forcing the driver to stop as soon as it's safe and make the passenger get off the bus. As the last run is quite late at night, and the supervisor at the depot long since gone home for the night, getting a replacement vehicle out would be out of the question.

Where would this leave the now potentially stranded passenger? Would there be an arrangement so that the bus driver could arrange a taxi to take the passenger the rest of the way to their destination or would the passenger be out of luck as far as this is concerned with the driver saying something along the lines of "Sorry mate, nothing I can do to help you, good luck with getting the rest of the way home". I'm inclined to believe that they'd be out of luck.

Has anybody here ever been in this kind of situation at night?

There will also be someone in the traffic office, unless there some sort of Cowboy operation. I have seen on few twitter feeds over the past year or so the last bus running well pretty late, because of a breakdown but still operated.

I have been on a bus with windows smashed more than one,( including getting on a bus thats already has smashed windows) and driver just keeps on going, since:

A: Bus can still move
B: The time wasted hanging around could get people to their destinations along with a replacement bus much sooner.

In the case you have said, if the driver was unable to get any reply, then the driver would just keep going.

Which bus company was this with where you were allowed to get on a bus with smashed windows?

It's just that when I've been on the bus (Stagecoach) and a window gets smashed, the driver ordered us all off at the next stop, and very late at night too, as it's a safety liability due to all the glass that usually falls onto the seating and the floor. Luckily, this was on a late night town circular and not a rural route so it was only a 10-15 minute walk the rest of the way home.

Also, (I don't know what policy other Stagecoach depots have regarding this), in Scunthorpe I live, they have the policy of ordering everyone off the bus and taking a bus out of service if someone vomits.

I had a situation a few years ago where I attempted to travel back from Filton to Yate on the 680 service from the next stop up from SGS College. After waiting nearly half an hour the bus failed to appear despite a First driver on another service telling me he'd seen the vehicle at the previous stop. It would appear the driver diverted off route somewhere and missed out the stop where I was waiting. Knowing that there was nobody in the Eurotaxis office after 1700 I had no option but to wait for an 82.

Also had a situation around the same time where I was waiting at Emersons Green for the last bus of the day back to Yate which failed to appear. I seem to recall ringing Wessex and being told the service was running with no problems reported although it didn't turn up. Additionally the driver running the service in the opposite direction was extremely unhelpful.

In the end I got home after a kind SGBC driver gave me a lift. And after emailing Wessex I was advised that the service had broken down and they weren't aware of this.

Seemingly standard approach from Transdev Blazefield is for them to refund taxi fares where passengers are stranded - there is an example today as the Harrogate-Pateley Bridge service since mid morning has been unable to run the full length of the route due to a burst water main and no alternative route is available suitable for the bus.
