I'm undertaking a spotting trip to Glasgow up the WCML on a Saturday in a few weeks and I was wondering if I should spend the day on Glasgow Central or perhaps move to another station
I'll be there about 7 hours
Any advice is appreciated

Partick or Hyndland will be best if you want to get lots of 318s, 320s and 334s quickly. Central does however have plenty of variety but after a couple of hours things will start repeating.

If you have seven hours, how about 2 hours at Central, then about 2 hours each at Partick and Queen Street high level?

I like Peter's plan. All the locations will become repetitive within a few hours due to the nature of the network in Glasgow (high frequency short routes). If you're only going up for the day, take the opportunity to visit all three stations and sample all that the Glasgow area has to offer!

GLC has lots of 156s, 314s, 380s and the odd 320 from Scotrail, as well as 185s, 220s/1s, 390s and a daily 91, not to mention the sleeper. Hyndland has a high frequency of 334s, 320s and 318s (and is probably better for photography than Partick). And GLQ high level has a few 156s, and plenty of 170s and 158s. A good mix I reckon, but there won't be any freight.

Might be worth heading over to Scot-Rail.com and keep an eye for anything unusual that might be worth seeing. Usually plenty of gen on there (free membership is needed to read the posts).

Hyndland is an island; Partick isn't, so while you won't get bowled at Hyndland you'll certainly get better quality photos at Partick because the running gear will be visible.

Was thinking for photographers that there's potentially some good snaps to be had at the ends of the platforms at Hyndland. Both ends of the platform offer a pretty good shot around a corner, and the island puts you in a good position. In contrast, the views at Patrick are much more limited.

Of course, if you want to get the running gear in shot then Partick would work. Although the frequency is so high that the chances of getting "bowled" are also pretty high.

The bowlage factor can be mitigated by being at the end of the platform at Partick; that'll give the chance to get everything that's on the opposite side as it'll either be still in the platform or you can turn round and snap it clear of the platform - it's not really possible to be completely bowled on any specific movement that way.

Many thanks for the tips - I'll certainly try to fit those 3 locations in

Thanks again
