A couple of weeks ago it was noticed that National Rail was showing tickets (specifically seasons) from Great Northern stations to London Terminals had become valid to Liverpool Street. A couple of us mentioned this to the GN Twitter Team half expecting to hear that it was a mistake but, to their credit, they've now come back with "the route" which is:
  • Train from xxx to Finsbury Park
  • Train from Finsbury Park to Highbury & islington
  • Train from Highbury & Islington to Hackney Central
  • Walk from Hackney Central to Hackney Downs
  • Train from Hackney Downs to London Liverpool Street
Obviously this adds quite a few stations as "intermediates" which could be of interest to anybody working in and around Hackney.

In an earlier tweet (for stations far enough north) the Stevenage - Hertford North - Hertford East - Liverpool Street route was also given (although it does involve quite a long walk through Hertford).

A request for a Season specifically to Liverpool Street will also come back with the London Terminals ticket.

I presume the main reason for this additional terminal is that station that isn't finished that would allow someone to end up at Liverpool Street having alighted at Moorgate?

My understanding is that that will only be possible via an area requiring a valid underground ticket, but it would be good if it could be done with a Terminals one!

Given there's no gateline at Moorgate between NR and LU, and none being built between that station and the new platforms...

Note that since Overground took over services at Hackney Downs there is a walkway between the two Hackney stations. You no longer have to leave the paid side or either station to get between the two.

Yes these are permitted routes.

I don't think that is linked, however it would make sense to allow exit from the Liverpool Street exit at Moorgate; it would be counter-intuitive, and presumably unprecedented, not to allow all available exits after all.

Whilst that's true, the link is from Platform 1 (Up Fast) at Hackney Downs to the Eastbound platform at Hackney Central, so only really useful if you're on a Chingford or Hertford East train heading towards Liverpool Street and wanting to head towards Stratford.

Having said that, if you were travelling from stations served by said Hertford East train to Stratford you'd be better off changing at Tottenham Hale, where it's a same platform change.

At Liverpool Street LU gates are separate from NR but would be very useful - particularly when it’s wet.
