I've just received details of the workings of the GNER Mallard HST for the next week and a bit. Obviously things could change, but it's highly likely to do it's booked diagrams on the 18th and 24th to get the set back to Craigentinny for maintenance.

I have had a nasty feeling this would happen...I need 090 and 100 (I don't want to use the new numbers) for sighting and haulage, but I wanted to do INV with a Valenta! It just won't be the same doing it with MTUs...Screaming the hell out of the Highlands with a Valenta (preferably a pair of them) or crawling and putting the Highlands to sleep with MTUs...:angry3:

Oh well, that's life I guess...

Someone had better stop me picking up one of the hackers (as in the mini-axe variety) in the morning on Friday...

If they are anything like 12220's interior yesterday, I will be annoyed as I just couldn't get comfortable!

Oh don't worry Julian, they're true Mallards.

Better than this FGW High Density rubbish. ;)

It worked 1S12 today, so seems to be sticking to the diagram I posted on Friday.

:banghead:

Come on delticmatt, haven't you ruined them yet...

At least I'll have a chance at riding to London from Newport with Valentas. Watch as FGW 'do a GNER' and shove their refurb set and a pair of MTUs on the 0855 CDF - PAD on Friday...

Worked 1E08 this morning and is booked to do 1D51 21:30 KGX - LDS tonight, slightly off the booked diagram but will still end up at Neville Hill tonight.

The bash to London will be on a walk-up fare. If I had my way I'd wait for some Valentas, but I have to be on the 0855 CDF - PAD to have any chance of hitting KGX on-time.

Hoping madly for some mental Valenta thrash, preferably with 002 on one end or the other! Storming Didcot Parkway at 125mph with Valentas...*Rubs hands with glee*

Ahh, the legendary 319 Veg returns...

Matty is at the extreme end of the Valenta Veg spectrum. I'm high up on it, but not that bad...

Besides, what's wrong with wanting specific Valentas on a bash or stating (even if it is ambiguously stating) that 125mph non-stop thrash through Didcot Parkway would be delightful...

Yes I am back, I haven't bashed a 319 since 19th December 2006!

Does it have to be a Valenta.......
I wouldn't give a toss what engine the HST has [MTU,Valenta,VP185], as long it's a HST then I'm happy with it!

Have you tried bashing an MTU? Compared to a Valenta or even a VP185 they're unbelievably boring!

Give me 002, 003, 007, 008, 010, 012......I could list the rest of the Valentas still in operation, but I won't. You can keep your rancid MTUs, I'll stick to getting Valentas. Although the odds of getting one or two on the 0800 SWA - PAD (not the 0855 CDF - PAD as previously thought) is unlikely, the odds are in favour of an all-MTU weekend...:sleepy2:

Pleased? PLEASED? I was fooking loving it! Diagrams switched! Set off the Skipton run doing the Inverness run!

43006 leading and 008 on the rear (both working hard and fast all the way) all the way to Inverness, fooking 'ave it! 008 leading on the way back with 006 on the rear, both seeming to take turns at points to see which could make more noise...Sterling performance out of both of them, working hard and fast all the way back too!

Even better was the total lack of John anywhere...

1,161 on each of those 43s now, fooking loving it!

Pair of Valentas (032 and 145 Newport to Paddington on the 0730 SWA - PAD, 180 and 063 on the 1745 PAD - SWA as far as Newport) with FGW on both runs I had with them, 175001 finally secured for haulage too from Newport to Hereford last night.

Overall, apart from the severe lack of food available on the HST to London (resulting in my going rather hungry all the way and my being thankful for having the cookies and packet of crisps in my bag still, with me getting a delicious Cornish pasty on the 1745 for breakfast, lunch and tea), this trip was an absolute cracker. Granted, we were bloody starving and a bit bored on the way back to London, but this was probably due to a lack of Railgourmet providing food for the service more than anything. In terms of value for money, I'd give this one a 9.5 out of 10, which is incidentally the highest rating I've given a trip this year. Was it worth doing? Thanks to it being a pair of Valentas on the ECML, no John and pairs of Valentas with FGW, it most certainly was worth it!

I will finish this with the following, aimed at John and Craig (laughing and pointing fingers, with possible waving of fingers and raising of select fingers at the end - I'll do a video of this later and shove it on YouTube so you can see precisely how this should look and sound):

Na na na na na na, we got Valentas, not fooking MTUs! :bootysha:
