Link may not be a golfcourse - there's Malvern Links and Barry Links for instance

I'm almost certain Barry Links is. There are two courses, Carnousite on the seaward side of the line and Barry Links on the landward side a little south of there. Remember that the major water hazard at Carnoustie is the Barry Burn. I'm going through there next week, so I'll have a look.

An area of low-lying sand dunes, Barry Links are located between Monifieth and Carnoustie and extend out into the mouth of the Firth of Tay behind Buddon Ness. The links are largely occupied by a military training area and the largest rifle-range in Scotland, associated with Barry Buddon Army Camp. At the northeastern side of the links is the Carnoustie Championship Golf Course. Much of the area is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) to protect its sand dune systems and the vegetation is of European importance, proposed as a Special Area of Conservation. The Dundee-Aberdeen railway forms the northern boundary of the links.

As I understand it a golf links is one type of Golf Course and the word has a much older meaning.

Winchburgh Golf Course is next to the Edinburgh - Glasgow via Falkirk Line, albeit there's no station there.

Bathgate Golf Course is 5 mins from Bathgate station.

I've played both!

The nearest golf course to Aberdeen station itself is King's Links which has its entrance slightly over a 2.5 mile walk away.

Sorry for being a pedant but both the Kings and Nigg Bay are closer than 2.5 miles of the railway station.

The starters hut, both clubs are council run and there is no need to go into the club house, for the Kings is directly behind Pittodrie and according to google maps a walk of approx 1.3 miles and Nigg Bay is 1.5 miles away.

South of King's Links is the biggest coastal golf course desert in the populated part of Eastern Scotland

South of the Kings you have Nigg Bay and then it is about 11/12 miles as the crow flies to Stonehaven and then and then 20 miles or so to Montrose so considering how close the courses are around the Dundee area you are right in saying that there isn't much links golf.

The way I play I reckon it's better I stick to the inland course anyway.:lol:

As for courses not far from railway stations just to the south of Aberdeen you have Portlethen and the golf club there is about a mile from the train station so not a great distance.
