I've found it to be just as inaccurate for buses. Showing as late when it's on time, showing as cancelled when it's not, completely different to what's shown on a companies own app etc.
On Saturdays I've actually found it to be more accurate than Arriva's own app.

It's been a while since I've used buses at all due to a change of location and a different job, so not had much need to use Google maps for transportation purposes! Hopefully it's improved a bit since I last used it!

I suspect that both Apple and Google Maps are using an industry source for the data - hardly rubbish.

It's not the industry standard though (which is Darwin). My experience seems to suggest Google/Apple Maps has the base data in it and this is poor at dealing with alterations to the timetable, particularly things like platform changes.

I've known & seen station staff to regularly end up in weird disputes with passengers who are heading to a clearly empty platform adamantly pointing at Google Maps on their phone with the platform number on it, despite the fact its either a) not been advertised or b) altered long in advance.

Always happened. Always ending up telling people not to use it and get NRE or something similar. But not Trainline either. Cause that never updates in time.

Yes Trainline is slightly better but does weird things like saying trains are running as booked despite (for example) being part-cancelled.
