Sunday was a training run for the Stewards, who will be with each group of guests, and to check out the timings/content/format. There are more details on the GCR website.

Does anyone know what will be working on the GCRN this weekend for the Reunification event?

I tried looking on the website but can only see the timetable

I missed the N in GCRN but yes, definitely the class 20 up north!

Certainly a good selection of locomotives on offer, I might make the trip down weather-depending.

I was there on Sunday - a very good day out, in glorious weather, and I traveled over two lines new to me - the full length of GCR(N) and the Mountsorrel branch. But I think the highlight of the day was seeing Deltic 55019 haul the 9F from Quorn and Woodhouse (where it had been on static display all day) back to Loughborough at the end of the day - I wasn't the only one wondering if this had ever happened in the 1960s when both were in mainline use.

Very well done to everyone involved in running the Reunification event  !

It's a Class 20 on the Northern section (D8154) with a DBSO.

Although on Saturday morning it was 08694, not the 20! And the train I was on, 1130 from Ruddington, only went as far as Rushcliffe. Not the end of the world, but it would have been nice if someone had told the passengers what was happening.

From what was said on Sunday, the cl. 20 developed a fault on Saturday, hence the 08 substitute. The cl. 20 was running OK on Sunday (I had a ride behind it).

There was a minor lineside fire on Sunday afternoon between Rothley and Swithland Sidings, but it didn't delay things too badly.

It went into service on Saturday too, but I decided not to wait for it (thanks partly to the time it would take me to get home, due to the Midland Main Line closure south of Luton). Now of course I wish I had stayed! Hopefully the otherwise excellent event will be repeated.

Thanks Mr. SW. Apparently there was a battery fault on the class 20, discovered on Saturday morning, which was fixed by the afternoon.

Looking at the timetable for the diesel gala this weekend, I noticed that there are the usual list of rakes A, B, C. A & B tend to be longer sets with shorter set C. What is rake E?

Set E is 2x Mk1 non-corridor suburban coaches.

An Australian friend took his tour group to GCR, not the first time he's done this.

He said the onboard luncheon dining experience was excellent, at a fraction of the price Belmond charges. Everything went off without a hitch.

He also commented that the reunification project was well featured. He came away with the impression this well supported project will be successful, a view I (as a donor) share.

Well done to GCR volunteers and staff. A highly recommended preserved railway on which to enjoy a day's travel.

Thanks Railfan, glad your friend and his group enjoyed their day on the GCR.
In other news, the boiler for 34039 Boscastle has returned and has been put on a Weltrol wagon. There is some more firebox work to do, then the purchase and installation of the tubes and superheater elements.

Had a very enjoyable day yesterday driving 55019, a good morning looking round the Loughborough site and seeing the progress with the reunification work, then the main event of driving the engine and 6 carriages. Braking via vacuum brakes certainly takes a bit of getting used to. The staff at the GCR were great all day, not a cheap event, but if you can afford it, definitely worthwhile.

It is interesting that there is a prominent Max Speed 100mph sign. Back in the late 60's my father and I were talking to the signal man at Little Bythorn (?) on the ECML and he was convinced that some Deltics took much less than 3 mins to cover the 5 miles in his section....so what was the highest recorded Deltic speed?

The best seat in the house!. Did the screwdriver become useful whilst driving?

Lol, we all wondered whether it'd been left to fix a random future fault, but she behaved impeccably. Had no issues with 6 carriages on one engine, was tempted to ask if we could turn the second one on for one run, but suspected I already knew the answer :D

Looking at the GCR website, Sat 5 & Sun 6 July are not normal running days, and the only event appears to be a first class dining experience. Is this correct? Why aren't trains running this particular weekend? They seem to operate other Saturdays and Sundays.

Trains are running but it's a reduced timetable due to the fire risk with no Steam. Details of the timetable and loco roster here https://www.gcrailway.co.uk/timetables-and-fares/

Unless I am missing something, that page only shows the timetable and loco roster for this coming weekend. There are then individual links for further June weekends. For dates beyond June, you are invited to click on the link to the ticketing site. This has entries for weekends June 21/22 & 28/29 and July 12/13, 19/20 etc, but no entries for the weekend of 5 & 6 July.

Are you saying that trains will actually be running on 5 & 6 July, to the same timetable and roster as this coming weekend? In which case, the website is wrong in showing nothing running?

Apologies my fault - misread your initial post (hadn't had coffee yet!)

5th & 6th of July is the Railway 200 open weekend, there will be an enhanced timetable, various exhibits etc. It's being run in conjunction with GCR(N) too with more to be announced.

Tickets are available here https://tickets.gcrailway.co.uk/events/121349 with more detail (although timetables haven't been published yet by the looks of it). The website is showing it under 'special events'.
