These scenes were taken as the sun was setting on a long June day. All the locos are back from their day at work and are quietly simmering ready for the following day. The place is Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains with massive 2-10-2Ts the mainstay of the active metre gauge fleet. I was here in 1974 - the only difference being the locos are much cleaner in 2014! There is still every flavour of a real working steam operated railway here. The railway is some 80 miles east of Hannover if you are in the area.

It's a fantastic place, Drei Anne hohne station ( or sausage junction as it became known) between 12- 15:30 is just a non stop drip of steam loco movements! Planning a second trip at the end of summer and possibly one next feb, just missed the snow this year
