Hi,
Used ticket machine to collect pre-paid tickets and noticed on bank statement that GWR charged my debit card £2.78 for this service even though no pin was entered and no charge was displayed on machine.

Is this the norm?

Interesting. GWR website suggests that collecting a ticket from a station should be free. £2.78 seems a bit random. Was it a % of the ticket price?

There are no charges for collection of tickets bought online that are levied at the point of collection, regardless of who the retailer is or where the tickets are collected.

Did you puchase anything from the trolley during your journey? I once had what I thiought was an erroneous change from a train company and after much head scratching realised I'd bought a coffee from the trolley!

Yes definitely charged for collecting the tickets. Collected 3 sets, for different journeys, was charged £2.78 for each journey. Will try and call CS to get clarification.

When you say "charged", what exactly can you say on your bank/card account? Could you upload a (suitably redacted) screenshot?

So, did you enter your PIN for each (or any) of these or use contactless? Because it's difficult to see how the amount due can have been shown on the terminal or screen, as it must be, when entering a card is the very first thing that happens in the collection process.

You were not charged for collecting tickets from a ticket vending machine - there is no method to do so. This is a charge for something else, such as buying train tickets, food or drink, or a currency conversion, for example.

If you can't submit a screenshot, could you please let us know precisely who your banking app says the charges are from?
