GWR website shows first class advance available at £98.00 Paddington to Torquay for tomorrow but I can't book as it says no seats available. Surely if the advances aren't sold out there must be seats. Is this a fault with the booking system or normal?

This does happen and is always annoying, especially when you've found a bargain. However, as I understand it, the quota of Advances may not be sold out but all the reservable seats on the particular train may have been reserved, e.g. because more passengers with flexible tickets have reserved seats than might have been expected when Advances first went on sale for that train.

It actually happens all the time. Mostly it's the "priority seat / wheelchair" NRS bug where the NRS reports that quota is available where a priority seat or wheelchair space is available and no other seats are available, but when you come to book it you're not allowed it unless you have specifically requested a priority/wheelchair space. All booking systems suffer from this bug.
