It looks like the first swap of 165s out-based at Oxford is taking place this afternoon, via Worcester and Kemble

165121 5R00 1315 Oxford Up Carriage Sdgs to Reading Traincare Depot

to be replaced by 1651xx 5Z01 1712 Reading Traincare Depot to Oxford Up Carriage Sdgs

165126 5Z01 RG > OXF

I think the only depot ( most drivers) that signs entire route and traction is Worcester GWR ( perhaps Bristol Pkw ), otherwise number of drivers are required for such move.

I believe it was an Oxford driver driving virtually throughout (except on/off Reading TCD), route conducted by a Worcester driver from Worcester to Reading and back.

165121 had a fault which led to it needing to go back to Reading; it couldn’t be fixed at Oxford and no agreement yet to do maintenance at Banbury; only fuelling.

Today’s trip happened in lieu of a fuel run to Banbury; so probably a 4 car tomorrow on 5M00/5V00.

It looks like another swap of the units at Oxford is taking place today. This time it partly involves the old Worcester swap diagram

165126
2E77 0510 Oxford to Worcester Shrub Hill
5L77 0710 Worcester S.H. Long Sdg to Reading Traincare Depot

to be replaced by

165129
3G80 0443 Reading Traincare Depot to Worcester Shrub Hill
2E80 0701 Worcester Shrub Hill to Oxford

Am I to assume Turbo availability is shot this morning again? A solitary 166 on the Exmouth line, with a 2-car and 3-car 158 cropping up and no 4-car 150s.

Well since I looked earlier the allocations appear to have changed to a rather more ‘normal’ selection, with less 2-car workings.

There are a some trains from Wiltshire/Dorset via Bristol to Great Malvern and Worcester today that seem to be 4 cars south of Gloucester and only 2cars further north

Also a couple of 4car workings on Portsmouth-Cardiff, so seems more like the allocations for new timetable in months time. But probably just a fluke with today's allocation rather than masterplan

Those letters and phone calls must have done some good. No short forms; 3 166s and a 158 and 3x2 150s. Magic!:D
A 166 on Barnstaple. 2 car 158 on Okehampton. More magic.

In the nicest way the letters probably arrived after the trains were out today. I'd say the mechanics worked their magic

In addition to 166216, I don't recall having seen 166201 since late February, I assume it would be fair to assume it is also stopped in SPM?

Many thanks.

It was a joke really. I don't suppose schools know what a letter is. Probably emails and texts.

On a serious note this seems to happen on Mondays so I wonder if there is any vandalism over the weekends, public or staff.

I worked as an apprentice assisting a depot clerk and was one for a couple of years and I was always amazed at the size of the buttons and switches on the trains and one of the yardmasters told me it was to cope with heavy handed use. Some of the cabs used to have initials of local football teams etched into the metalwork as well as other graffiti.

165132 and 165136 working Okehampton today. That's a first? One shortform working Paignton. 166205 working Barnstaple. Seems a shortage of 158s today.

More 158/3s than usual working in and around Bristol, this is perhaps a consequence of the line closure at Castle Cary over the past couple of days (the 158 off the Axminster service swapped out a 158 on Weymouths at Castle cary each day. Give it a couple of days and I'm sure it will settle down again.

This is correct as Weymouth started this morning with 158951 and 158956 for the first and second GWR departures respectively.

Only 2 166s at Exeter today. All the 150's are short formed and a 2 car 158 working Paignton -Exmouth. Something wrong somewhere.

Yes a bad day at Exmouth with the holiday season getting started. Part of the reason seems to be 150s out of service, including the long-absent 150202. There's a concern that any which go off for overhaul will turn out to be so corroded that they might not be back any time soon.
