There is an 0Z57 Reading Traincare Depot -Southall Loco Serviced Ltd in for Friday so is that 311 heading home?

Correct, two week hire period has finished. Fleet now bolstered with the arrival of 305 and 312 being allowed out of the Thames Valley.

1A50 last night had slight issues between Penzance and St Erth due to some sort of cable connectivity fault. Then an extended layover in Reading due to 25 minute early arrival followed by late departure due to late arrival of the loco from depot to attach to rear.

The Penzance - St Erth delay is shown as timing issues involving 1A50 and a booked ECS move over the single line out of Penzance.

This Sunday (30/03) will see the Night Riviera stock once again travel ECS over the East-West route from Reading TCD > Euston > Reading TCD.

One slight difference from the last run is that between Milton Keynes > Euston > Milton Keynes the consist will have a Class 90 up front! o_O

5Z80 08:29 Reading TCD - Euston
5Z83 15:47 Euston - Reading TCD

Is this to do with the plan to have a Class 90 with GWR for the Empty Coaching Stock sections?

Is there a definite plan to do that or have you just taken a rumour as gospel?
I think this is probably the working that originated that initial rumour!

Word going about that 1A50 tomorrow (Sunday) night is a IET vice loco and sleepers due to no class 57 trained driver available.

Wow - that’s not great is it. Do sleeper passengers get a full refund?
Any cancellation gets you a refund. It will be full on a Sunday so details will be held for all passengers so they'll be contacted and offered a day train Sunday or a hotel and a day train Monday. Or use the IET and get compensated.

Both Sleeper sets, up & down, not running Sunday due to Class 57 driver availability.

Having had the worst experience ever on last night's Up sleeper due to a very inconsiderate trio of Scottish men and a rather senile old man making an absolute racket, I cannot tell you how much I would have loved to be given the option of a hotel and a day train this morning instead. It'd have been far, far better. Lucky passengers (the seated ones, not those in berths)

GWR journey check saying 2350 will start from Exeter instead (you can't buy tickets from EXD or Newton Abbot though as not showing in system:o)
UPDATED: now cancelled throughout.

Do you know how much longer 57301 will be with GWR please?

I don’t know how long its here for, sorry. It’s been on the wheel lathe road the last few nights and yet to be added to the sleeper loco roster.

Listed as CAN as well on RTT. Everything else is listed as VAR.

Anyone got any clue as to why the sleepers are listed twice? I thought there was only ever the one sleeper per night?

Still, I feel immensely lucky to have been on the sleeper on Friday evening, as I'd booked that trip specifically for the Sleeper experience. I would have been furious if it had been cancelled or (worse still) replaced with an IET!

You are right that there’s only one sleeper service in each direction per night: 1C50 towards Penzance and 1A50 towards London. It appears that the two versions of 1C50 shown on RTT are routed differently, with one via Yeovil Pen Mill and the other via Bristol. Both of these are alternative routings for the sleeper, but why both are shown I do not know.

Maybe it's there to keep the path in the system? I can't think of any reason why it'd be there otherwise.

In any case, the Mark 3 Coaches make for surprisingly good sleeping, even after so many decades in service. I probably slept until about 6-ish, when there was a pretty hefty jolt before we stopped at Liskeard (I don't remember feeling the train stop at Plymouth, so I was probably fast asleep at that point). My best guess is that it was probably some point work, but until that point, I was soundly sleeping like a rock.

By comparison, I've heard some incredibly un-flattering things about the Mark 5s on the other sleeper. Sounds like either GWR's refits and changes to the Mark 3s have really worked their magic, or CAF royally screwed up on the Mark 5s, unless both of my acquaintances relaying their experiences are very light sleepers.

seems like a rather big detour?
is this for any actual plans for when using Euston or just more route testing of East-West?

Both statements are true in my experience. GWR did a great job refurbishing the Mark 3 coaches. Very modern feel but still cosy.
I slept way better on the Riviera than the Caledonian.

Is a hotel and travel the next morning a standard option whenever the stock is swapped to an IET? I am due to travel from Paddington to Penzance in a few weeks and I am already very nervy about whether I will get stock that has any beds on it

I've messaged GWR on twitter about this and they have offered the usual response that actually had no information in it :D

Yes, those are the normal options offered.
