No, was Virgin XC (except for 4 weeks between the new XC franchise in November 2007 and the Dec 2007 TT change when TPE took over the service, when VTWC operated it temporarily for the transition).

However, both sides of Virgin commonly helped each other out (with common control arrangements) which might explain the appearance of a dragged Pendolino.

The cross cover stopped the minute 86s and 47s got took off cards. XC never touched Pendos, Andy even said WC covered a XC job so he's acknowledged it was XC. The route was always there for WC as a diversion route and all Preston staff and a number of Piccadilly drivers at WC signed it. There were some strange goings on at changeover time, with staff I now work with using our sets in XC uniform who must have been TUPE'd at that point to us. I had absolutely no idea if I was allowed to use the service. As a finalfpoi ter, we didn't have proper common control between us. They could easily get to one another, but everything was separate.

Yes as the non-tilt ones used to run the Glasgow/Edinburgh - Manchester services when VTWC ran the service before Transpennine. Used to catch them quite regularly from Penrith to Piccadilly.

Back in BR days just before West Coast & Cross Country went to Virgin there was a Glasgow to Brighton train which ran via Manchester and Bolton about lunch time. That was a day out of a service!

Recall Aberdeen or Glasgow services going via Manchester to Bournemouth on VXC days
