Hi everyone, I am relatively new to this, but I recently had an interview at Taunton station with GWR for a position as an SDA. Today, I had an email that stated the following: ‘
Regarding your application for the role of Service Delivery Assistance, reference ######, we are pleased to inform you that you were successful at the interview.

We have therefore placed you on our reserve list, pending the confirmation of future roles at this depot/station.’ The wording of this email has confused me. Have I been effectively offered the job? Or has the role been filled already and I have been put on hold in case the same position comes up again?

I am no expert, but I am aware some TOCs use a 'Talent Pool' where they have a group of people ready to start training when there's a vacancy, rather than starting an application process when there's a vacancy

Until you have a contract signed you don't have the job, looks like a form of talent pool so when they need people you will get the nod.

You’re in the “Talent Pool”; not a job offer just yet but you’re ‘on the list’ when one becomes available.

No, you have been successful at the interview, that’s all. You are effectively being held in a ‘talent pool’.
What did the advert say, they normally do say if it’s for a talent pool or for a future role.

Pretty much this. You've passed the interview, but maybe someone else also scored higher so you are effectively on reserve.

No harm in sending an email just to clarify if you wish.

‘successful at interview‘ is the term used when you’ve passed the interview and satisfied their criteria. It doesn’t mean an automatic job offer. Like others have said it could be a talent pool you’re in. Depending on the role there might be a medical and background/references checks before a contractural offer is made.

Thank you for your response. I sent them an email today and they confirmed I have been placed in a talent pool. Do you have an idea of what the likelihood of a job offer is, and how long it may take?

Unfortunately this is very much how long is a piece of string!

being in a talent pool can be good or bad news. Good you have passed the interview bad that you could be in a talent pool for weeks, months or years.
