Have arranged to go to the loco works next week. Could someone kindly confirm that the entry door to them is self-evident from the station?

Thanks

Nowhere near im afraid, a good 3/4mile on foot using the public roads. Leave Herston Halt via the steps/ramp and turn left go over the bridge and continue until you reach the main road (A351), turn left and carry on along the road, not turning off anywhere (unless you fancy a swift pint in the Globe Inn !), you will then cross over the railway again on an overbridge, and a few yards afterwards, you will see the industrial estate on the left, Herston Works is by far the largest building on the site so you cant miss it ! The works has no rail access at present, so everything has to come in and out by road, but I understand there are plans to provide a connection at some time in the future. There is not much difference in time/distance if you were to walk from Swanage really though ;)

You have bit of a walk from the halt. Follow the footpath across the fields from the other side of the bridge to Victroia Avenue. Then follow the road towards the town, cross the railway and take the 1st turning on the left. Which will take you into the industrial estate, the works are at the far end. Should take you about 15 20 minuites.

On final point the halt is a request stop.

Thank goodness I wrote. I thought it was adjacent!

It think it would be easier time wise for me if I went from Swanage Station. Could you kindly give me directions from there. Many thanks.

Walk out the end of the station passed the buffers. Turn left in to Gilbert road walk down to the junction with Northbrook Road (The bridge here gives a good view of the engine shed). Turn right on to Northbrook road, walk down to the junction with Victroia Avenue. Turn left and follow the road down passed the bend to the left. Just before the bridge, You will see a road on the right in to the industrial estate, the works are at the far end. Should take you about 30 to 40 minuites.
