Only drivers/guards based At Barrow who formerly worked for Northern Rail Ltd sign Heysham to Morecambe (the former TPE drivers at Barrow don't. In terms of the two lines between Morecambe and Bare Lane all crew will sign both lines/platforms which is Barrow, Wigan, Skipton.

When the Arnside viaduct was closed for repairs in 2011, the Heysham services were bustituted as no Barrow drivers were coming east of Arnside.

Meant to post this link to a picture I saw on RailScot recently which may be of interest here.

Resident Sentinel 4wDM Shunter H055 propels two newly delivered flask wagons away from the exchange sidings towards the Heysham Power Stations complex on 26th May 2016...
NOTE: The power stations are a licensed nuclear site where photography is restricted. This picture of a rarely seen locomotive taken with the kind permission of EDF-Energy and the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.

Surely if they are driving it on a daily basis Skipton men could just sign for the road ?

It's all to do with barrow depot don't want to loose the work to skipton as heysham harbour has always been barrows route. I think the unions have a lot to do with this as well , we have a similar situation at Leeds where a Leeds driver is booked in a taxi from Leeds to man vic on a Sunday morning to work the first train out of vic back to Leeds when man vic have a massive depot. Common sense should prevail and man vic should take that job and maybe Leeds take another one to even things out same as skipton could learn barrow and barrow could maybe learn to skipton but that would be common sense in action!

Think there's only 1 link at Skipton and because they don't actually 'sign' the route it's not an issue.

There is 3 links at skipton - 2a, 2b and 1. One of the 2 links, think it's a and link 1 go to morcambe and the other 2 link and 1 does carsile.

2B or not 2B?

That is the question... Okay, sorry, couldn't resist that one!

Joking aside, that thing about sending a Leeds driver to Manchester Victoria to bring the unit home on a Sunday, does he go with a Leeds guard or do Man Vic provide the guard?
