It also means that if engineering works has to be carried out then one route between Letchworth and Hitchin remains open which is what Network Rail were saying when they first started discussing this proposal.

Yes there may be pain but it's only short term and they need to think of the capacity improvements it will deliver.

In my personal experience, I tend to find the people of these areas around Hitchin/Letchworth do nothing but whinge.

If they think their road is a racetrack, I suggest they look at roads such as the A505 at night!

I don't know the road (other than a quick look on Streetview; it's subject to a 40mph speed limit), but I would imagine that widening it would actually make it safer. And as for this "if anything there's going to be a death" remark... it's clearly just scaremongering. Wider roads don't mean more deaths.

The fact is that some things need to be done for the greater good. And it doesn't take a genius to realise that a flyover here is not only desirable, it's necessary.
