Quick question for a friend. Between the 0210 arrival and 0425 departure does the station close at all at the weekend?

No, it remains open. There are often ferry passengers around and as there are a few different entrances, plus the fact that it’s connected to the ferry terminal, it wouldn’t be practical to close.

The railway part is open to the elements and is not fully gated so is always accessible.

The only real indoor area is the Ferry terminal which also houses the rail ticket hatch, this remains open 24h. There really is little of comfort there, metal bench seats with fixed armrests so no lying down, a shop that will be closed and ticket offices also closed. There are toilets but not very nice ones.

Yes indeed, it's a horrible place to wait at night, and in winter not very warm either. They also have power points very high on the walls so you can't charge your phone! The toilets are awful.

Out of interest, whose responsibility is the station when it's a shared facility? Sail or Rail?

My understanding is that Stena own the land but the station itself is Network Rail’s responsibility. The ferry terminal and railway station aren’t shared exactly, rather one flows into the other, but it’s clear which is which.

Thanks. Suppose its like a smaller version of Heysham..another dump whether you arrive by train or boat. Shame really.
