Hornby are producing a new DVT model due for release in Spetmeber! they anounced it at the DEMU show and will produce these models in Virgin and 'One' liveries although they will also produce a pack of the EWS Manegment train consisting of an EWS 67 and presumably 2 coaches and the DVT full report here:

i suggested on the gc hst model thread that it would make sense for them to make one as they have classes 67, 86, 87 and 90...

The old Mk3 DVT they did was just the Mk4 DVT repainted, which looked rubbish, becuase it still had the tapered sides, compared to the relatively flat profile of the Mk3, and the nose was too long as well.

I'm still not completely convinced by this, and I'll reserve my judgement of it until i see the actual model.

I diddn't know that lol, i diddn't get that model anyway! i'm kinda tempted by this tho, i might get the EWS Pack thingy

I've always thought the east coast ones were narrower on the front but thought it was trick of the eye because of the paintwork.

what two do virgin have in storage? and do they get used reg?

They're both coaching stock class 82, not locomotive TOPS codes.

The Mk4s have a narrower body profile, that is also tapered, compared to the wider, flatter profile of the Mk3s, the front ends of the two are also different, with the Mk4 having a longer nose than the Mk3, different light surrounds, a flatter windscreen, etc.

It may not be that noticable when you see them separately, but the differences become obvious when you compare the two.

They're just overall narrower because they have a tilting profile (The 225s were designed so that they could be modified to tilt), whereas the Mk3s don't, so have the flatter profile and the slightly wider body.

Virgin don't own any, but they do still use one on their London-Birmingham services, in place of a Pendelino and have one being prepared for service to replace it. There are other places to see them though, National Express East Anglia (NXEA) now use them on services between London Liverpool Street and Norwich, and Wrexham & Shropshire (WSMR) use a few on their services too.

As for the difference between the type of driving van, well here are a couple of pictures....

yeh i like the "chunkier" version mk3 they look more mean and powerfull lol yet mk4 look faster.

I can understand why normal trains packs aren't always full trains- but would it really have hurt them to make the Management Train pack full by including ONE more carriage?

yea, they always do it every year, they put them in the coaching stock section of their range

I'm embarassed to say I had no idea there were two types of 82 until reading this thread (ignoring the old Class 82 engines, from BR days of course!)
