went to cardiff today to take some photos of the 57's and when my train came into bridgend it was on the wrong platform. an announcment said "due to a failed train on Cardiff outskirts, your train is being diverted and running 15m behind schedule" so the HST made its way via the vale of glamorgan line, passing Aberthaw power station and through Barry. the delay meant my arrival was 13.50ish and i only just got there in time to take the photos. 14.00 Taunton came in on platform 1 at 14.05 - late also. glad to see it still had the virgin liveried 57 at the back, which is what i wanted to film on dec 15 but had decided not to go to CC because the service was not loco hauled the previous day (57 broke down on day 1 of new diagram)

How much slack is there in the headway/timings for the Vale of Glamorgan line to take diversions like these without disrupting local services?

quite honestly I've no idea, seems to work pretty well though from watching it happen on the screens last year.

Very little, its a nightmare to plan diversions as its absolute block from Barry to Aberthaw and then there are only IB signals between there and Cowbridge road.
