Hello everyone, just received my date for DMI, mine is on the 17th august with Steve castle. If anyone has any tips or advice on what to expect or how to pass that will be hugely appreciated. Good luck to everyone at this stage.

Hi I had my DMI in April with Steve Castle and his colleague whose name escapes me both really nice guys tried to make it as relaxed as possible. If you look at recent thread on here entitled DMI created by Paul076 look at post from 332 > 444 these are the questions I was asked also.
Hope this helps and good luck with it.

Hi Daly,

I did my interview at kings cross with steve castle and mick carpenter just this last month.

They are both really great and really knowledgeable. Both Steve and Mick ask you questions in a similar style to the MMI so for example "name a time where you have shown good customer service". They asked me around 4-6 questions. I can't stress enough you need to learn about the company, the first question they asked me prior to the main interview questions was "what can you tell me about GTR" if you fire a blank at this question it won't look good, first impressions and all.
I memorised the values and visions and recited that back as well as the structure of the company mentioning keolis and share percentage etc, if you can find it there is also safety records online if you can write a short two sentences and commit it to memory about that then you're on too a winner :)

Its okay to be nervous; I told them i was, just don't be a wreck.
This is the DMI so as much as its about the answers its about how you come across, if they feel you aren't suitable for the job as you're cocky, your too nervous or they plain just don't like you then you won't get passed. Just be yourself.

Finally at the end they will ask you a question to see if you have any questions, apart from coming across as eager if you ask the right questions take this opportunity they are really knowledgeable, I cannot remember which one was a (area?) driver manager and which was a driver instructor but between they have mountains of info. I asked about the stresses on family life during the initial training and also once qualified what is the scope for progression and promotion. These questions told the interviews A) I don't take the course lightly and have put considerable thought into it and B) I am looking further than train driver showing more ambition than the norm.

Thats about it I reckon mate! Oh also, arrive early, better an hour early than one minute late and make sure you wear at the very least a shirt and trousers. I wore a white shirt and pair of trousers with polished to death shoes, If you have suit and feel comfortable then go for it.
Interviews last from anywhere between 45 mins to an hour and a half by my research. took me 55 mins ish... And its fairly relaxed its not like the MMI in terms of interaction, you get a hell of a lot more back from the interviewer/s.

Any specific questions feel free to ask.

And good luck :)

Hi mate I had seen that post and he got asked 8 questions but many others say they got 2 to 4 give me an example type so i guess either different interviewers have different ways or maybe they base it on how you are in the interview I guess there is no one way and I will have to have a dozen potential answers ready lol

Nah you'll look smart enough with a shirt and trousers if you'll feel comfortable in that. I had fresh hair cut was clean shaven and polished my shoes so if they wanted to look they could see i had made an effort. i hadn't just thrown on a shirt and trousers if you get my drift.

wow!!!! completely blown away by your responses haha, thanks sooooo much baz, murrchine & wearsunscreen. I think I may wear a suit only because its my sisters wedding on the 19th august which I need a suit for and my interview is only 2 days before. Other than that I'm gonna start revising a plan now and preparing using all the info you have given, seriously appreciated so thanks once again. luckily, I have all my answers I prepared for my MMI saved on this computer so I'll be sure to keep them and revise them again for the dmi now and on-top of that start researching the company as best as I can and prepare a few questions for steve which I hope will impress him. cheers lads, also, good luck to anyone who is yet to pass the last stage like me ;)
