Neustadt Bahnof (New Town Station)

Bahnhof Dresden Freiberger Straße - also footage filmed in Feb 09 an EXCELLENT yet vastly under-rated location for seeing some interesting stuff and getting a bit of footage.

If you climb to the top of the Frauenkirche and look south, it's hideous

Ah, now that's cruel lad. Yes they were "modified" but if you find some images of Dresden pre war you see how lovely it was.

It still is lovely, the 'new town' is what is being referred to as being ugly. It's just functional buildings not designed for aesthetics.

I'll agree with that. The Neustadt was rebuilt in the style favoured by the DDR government of the time.

I don't know what you are going on about, Dresdner Neustadt (the new town) wasn't damaged (much) in the war and is largely intact. The bit rebuilt by the DDR is Dresden proper

Yes you are quite right. I am getting confused as it was the Altstadt that was destroyed in the bombing and that was the part rebuilt by the DDR. I apologise.
