Hi all, any advice on this letter would be greatly appreciated.
Some context, I do and have always had a valid railcard - I can’t remember if they asked to see it at the time.
I bought the ticket after boarding the train which I understand is not allowed. Please see attached!

What type of railcard do you have and why did you not purchase the ticket before you boarded?

Is the letter correct in that they have identified historic fare evasion too? You will need to address that in your response.

Hi thanks for the response.
It’s a 16-25 railcard.
Was rushing for the train, obviously stupid but didn’t think about this at the time!
There were occasions when I would buy a ticket from a later station.

What you need to do is audit your transaction history; Chiltern will charge you the full undiscounted anytime fare for each and every time you did this, from actual origin to actual destination. Chiltern will also charge an admin fee of between £100-200 ish for the privilege; they've already done the audit, but you need to show you're honest at this point because they know you've got a history of ripping them off.

Okay, thank you for this advice. I have already sent them my railcard, I was a bit hasty to respond! Should I send a follow up with more details?

Welcome to the forum!

My suspicious mind is always aroused when I see Wembley Stadium station mentioned in these threads....

Was you journey from Denham to Wembley Stadium? Or were you going to Marylebone and had purchased a Wembley Stadium to Marylebone ticket and quickly purchased a Denham to Wembley Stadium ticket when you saw an inspector on the train?

And to add to this, will they have found more tickets from Wembley Stadium to Marylebone in your account? (It's an "entry level fraud" station which Chiltern see many cases of it used for short faring.) If so, you can expect them to come after you for the proper fare for those journeys too.

Hi. My journey was just Denham to Wembley as I was going to watch the football. This is the only time I have made this journey.

OK, that's good to know. Removes one potential area of suspicion that the investigators might need to follow up.

England played Latvia that day at Wembley; no doubt Chiltern had a bit of a crackdown!
