Intercity 225 to Newcastle?

Given that IC225s spent 30-odd years running from Edinburgh, why would they need test runs if they were to operate from Newcastle? Surely the performance is still well understood, and the infrastructure can't have changed that dramatically in the last three or four years?
It’s not about the performance of the sets, the sets have been fitted with additional equipment to assess the OHLE.

4 x Mk4s have been fitted with infrastructure monitoring equipment funded by Network Rail.
The test run is on behalf of Network Rail I am lead to believe.

That was in the context of 'if the test run(s) were with a view to running passenger service' - for which it's difficult to see why any testing would be required.
