This service has reached the end of its journey in. It's not the end of the line but through trains were very rare in 2017.

Quite - it isn't.
BTW - I understand that the particular loco class is no longer used on this service, but the same 3 countries' systems are still involved.

At the time IIRC a CD 814 off the Vesili n L route made a daily visit to Gmünd but otherwise the cross-border service was entirely OeBB.
Through services ran in the distant past Berlin-Wien (I travelled on the DR Vindobona from Gmünd to Wien in the mid 70s; there was also a sleeper); limited through trains Prague-Wien were only restored a couple of years ago, changing engines at CV and VnL.
