Honestly I don't know if there is any difference between the two as IE is probably the poorest browser available, most viruses/exploits are designed around weaknesses in IE, my advice; switch to Firefox or Chrome, they are far better browsers and Firefox has a lot of customisation options, as well as add-ons such as Ad-Blocker, which is very useful when browsing the internet.

I have unfortunately installed it and it is hopeless in my opinion, just seems to take ages to load and change pages sometimes so considering changing to something else.

I got rid of Internet Explorer ages ago, as it was clunky and slow. Plus, it seemed to be crashing at various points.

I now have the latest versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, which both have their own advantages and disadvantages, but both share the feature of being far superior to IE!

I've been unable to test IE9 because I refuse to install windows to test it but surely as long as ActiveX is still around then IE will always be vulnerable due to the ActiveX plugin as well as being dominant (I know many people who despise IE but must use it at work)

I use chromium as my main browser, firefox was getting too chunky (I still keep the development version for testing though) and I found that the chrome store has equivalents of the extensions that I used on firefox. In addition chromium runs each tab as a different process so you can kill one tab without the rest being affected.

The following pictures sums my opinion on the use of IE up:

My wife has now admitted that the Windows Update section on her Toshiba laptop had this included in a list of updates to install, so she did just that. She then componded her mistake by doing the same thing on my Hewlett Packard tower system.

Interestingly, there has been no loss of accuracy on the Toshiba laptop, but my Hewlett Packard tower system is now running as if I had "Windows 95" on it.

It is an utter disgrace. It is not a BETA version, it is supposed to be a totally tested new update. I have spoken to Norton, as I have their Norton 360 5.0 new system installed and they said that whilst Internet Explorer 9 was in its BETA stage, Norton were experiancing Norton Toolbar problems, that they have only just resolved.

I use firefox, however would probably use Chrome since I find FF is liable to locking up, and the PDF viewer is dreadful compared to Chrome. However I have an plugin that blocks all advertisments (including those video ones on youtube/itv player/4od so it's very useful for not wasting half my life watching adverts)

I hope you whitelisted this forum ;)

FWIW Chrome has adblock too. It also has flashblock which is useful for those sites with annoying flash ads

You're welcome. If I may quote myself

You can add the en_GB dictionary in chrome:

  1. Paste chrome://settings/languages into the address bar
  2. Click the Add button at the bottom left
  3. Select English - United Kingdom from the drop down list and then OK
  4. Drag English - United Kingdom to the top if you want it to be the primary language for spell checking
.

Back when I installed it, my chrome was automatically GB. No idea why.

If you install it through the download from google.co.uk/chrome as opposed to google.com/chrome, it installs the GB dictionary :)

I got rid of Internet Explorer a long time ago. The chart posted by SS4 was quite right; there are so many better browsers out there. IE seems to crash on a regular basis and can be very slow as well.

I've got IE9, a version of IE10, Chrome 13 dev and Chrome 13 Canary

Best by far is Chrome (either of them!) but IE9 is definitely better than IE8, if anything just because it gets rid of those horrible vista style tabs..!

I agree, I couldn't stand the tabs either. I use Chrome as well, it's the best by a long shot.
