I will be visiting Ireland for a week later this year and, though probably not the most cost efficient way to do it, as a collector of paper tickets, I will buy a Irish Rail Trekker ticket
For logistical reasons, I was wondering whether you can buy this ticket before the intended date (like in my case the day prior) or does it need to be bought on the day?
Yes both the Trekker (4 consecutive days) ticket and the Explorer (5 out of 15 days) ticket can be bought at a ticket office in advance. Just make sure you tell the clerk the start date you want it for. I have bought a Trekker in advance twice before. It is very useful if you plan to start early in the morning or from somewhere without a ticket office as the Trekker is not available at ticket machines.
Also note that only these following ticket offices can sell it:
Athlone, Balbriggan, Bray, Carlow, Cobh, Dublin Connolly, Cork, Drogheda, Dun Laoghaire, Dundalk, Galway, Greystones, Dublin Heuston, Howth, Kildare, Kilkenny, Killarney, Killester, Limerick, Limerick Junction, Malahide, Mallow, Maynooth, Mullingar, Newbridge, Dublin Pearse, Portarlington, Portlaoise, Sligo, Thurles, Tralee, Tullamore, Waterford, Westport, Wexford.
The other smaller ticket offices do not have the ability to issue them.
