Hi all,

Looking at travelling over for the diesel gala 1st October. Anyone have any fare advice on the cheapest way to get there from Huntingdon?

Cheapest I found so far was a 47.60 day return to Portsmouth and then getting a rover and ferry ticket..?

Any help much appreciated

Aren't there still through tickets that might work out cheaper than buying the ferry separately? Although that might rule out the combined rover element...

Your best bet is probably to book a day return to Portsmouth Harbour and then buy a ticket to the steam railway at the Wightlink booking office just before getting on the ferry. This ticket includes the ferry, the electric railway and the steam (Diesel on the 1st) railway for £28.30.

Just beware that there are engineering works on the Portsmouth direct line and you will need to go from Waterloo via Eastleigh. Southern from Victoria via Gatwick Airport will be nominally quicker but is it reliable these days????
