I have just had an e-mail from Northern to say that, as far as they are concerned, fares to this destination can still be bought. It's never been well advertised and I can't find it on brfares.com. Can someone with access to a railway ticketing system check and see if it still actually exists? Thanks.

Tried it on Avantix mobile this morning (on a Northern machine as well) and get a 'no fares matching criteria' message.
Therefor I'm stumped as to how you'd sell one!!

But J991 isn't a Plusbus destination, so it isn't used on a separate ticket with an origin of the railhead (Clitheroe in this case) as you do for Plusbus tickets, and is instead used a normal destination.

What happens if you look for fares from say Preston to J991?

A random selection of origins suggest that the only place a fare does not exist from is Clitheroe.

And that is on a railway ticket machine? If so then I'm glad it still exists.

I wonder why it isn't listed of brfares.com and why it seems to be no longer promoted on the Forest of Bowland website? It isn't mentioned on the Clitheroe line timetable leaflet either and seems to be a bit of a secret.

It's a very good value add-on and can get you all the way from Clitheroe to Settle or Horton-in-Ribblesdale for £2.50 return (unless they've put the price up). Handy when DalesRail isn't running.

Actually I stand corrected. I was using FasTis and failed to take account of the machine's ability to take what you ask for and offer something else. All the fares I saw were to Clitheroe, not Clitheroe Bus. There are no fares to Clitheroe Bus in FasTis.

No I also tried several other options on Avantix before taking the picture shown. Several Lancs stations and several outside the area. All come up no matching fares!

There are no fares for the Clitheroe bus link in various TIS or in RJIS. It is also not mentioned in The Manual (and hasn't been for several years - I've gone back to 2010). The nearest thing appears to be an East Lancs Day Ranger. I think the OP will have to ask Northern how to obtain the Clitheroe bus ticket.

Funny that. Northern said in their e-mail reply last week that they had been in contact with Clitheroe ticket office and it was they who confirmed that the ticket was still available. I'm pretty sure that it was listed on brfares quite recently and it is also on my Avantix Traveller CD from c2011. I'll have to make some more enquires with Northern and may pop into Clitheroe station and ask.

As for the East Lancashire Day Ranger - hasn't that been withdrawn recently too? It seems like all the through train+bus tickets from East Lancashire to Yorkshire have now gone. :(

You'd have thought that the local rail campaign groups would be kicking up a fuss but nothing is mentioned on their websites. Indeed, Ribble Valley Rail and Clitheroe Line Community Rail Partnership are still promoting the Clitheroe Bus ticket and the East Lancashire Day Ranger on theirs.

My apologies, the East Lancs Day Ranger has been withdrawn. That's what can happen if you get carried away with looking at old versions of The Manual!
