The John Lewis advert is always talked about every year, but The Mirror went for an interesting angle this time(!) Not sure I’d really say it’s an “embarrassing mistake” myself though, more that “two two two to Tooting” sounds funny when you say it aloud.

The new Christmas advert by John Lewis has left some bus enthusiasts fuming after they noticed an error in the festive video released by the major retailer today

Christmas lovers officially kicked off their festive countdown this morning by watching the new John Lewis advert.

And while most enjoyed the heartwarming clip, people who know their bus routes were left a tad confused.

Bus spotters highlighted a rather embarrassing mistake in the highly-anticipated ad - which has already gone viral.

The department store's ad was inspired by random acts of kindness carried out during lockdown in March.

It begins with a young boy whose football gets stuck in a tree.

This sparks further acts of kindness as the little boy helps a snowman fly away, who then helps a family get their car going.

But viewers weren't impressed by the next scene - although the actual exchange was very heartwarming, as a kind-hearted nurse repaired the little girl's specs with a heart-shaped sticker from an apple.

The duo were travelling on a 222 bus which said it was heading to Tooting, but in real life runs from Uxbridge to Hounslow.

Bus spotters took to social media to share their disappointment at the error, which left some people fuming.

One viewer moaned: "The John Lewis christmas ad is sending me, why the F*** IS THE BUS GOING TO TOOTING??"

Another commented: "That John Lewis ad is cute providing you can get past the fact there is no 222 bus to Tooting," adding: "Which obviously I can't."

A third tweeted: "My only criticism of the john lewis advert is there is no 222 to tooting."

A fourth blasted: "I'm afraid I can't endorse this advert because I've ridden the 222 countless times and it goes nowhere near Tooting."

Another eagle-eyed viewer wrote: "FACT CHECK: The 222 runs from Uxbridge to Hounslow and doesn't go anywhere near Tooting. Did you really think we wouldn't notice @johnlewis?"

But others shared their love for the advert, with one writing: "Anyone else seen the #johnlewischristmasadvert It is so what is needs right now.

"A little bit of kindness & love really does make the world go round. So here is a little from me."

I’ve seen the mirror make news articles out of facebook and reddit posts. Must be a slow news day

I’m also more concerned about the bus itself than the routing. It looks like it’s made out of cardboard

Say what you will, there is no denying the wheels look about the right size for modern lightweights though!

222 to Tooting is a nice alliterative phrase to use. I rather like it. It's nothing like the infamous wartime routemaster to West Peckham in Foyle's War. I don't even mind that the announcements are made by a man rather than using a woman's voice. It's a bit of fun, and I hope most people here will see it as such.

Never mind the wrong route number, no one is wearing a mask on the bus!

Perhaps the advert is depicting a future post-Covid nirvana where face coverings are no longer required and TfL have extended the 222 all the way from Uxbridge to Tooting...? ;)

Perhaps they got the Prime Minister to build the bus out of boxes

222 to Tooting sounds funny, so I can see why they did it. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter.

It’s probably someone who works in marketing who thinks it sounds good: “Too-Too-Too-Tooting”.

A lot of people interested in buses forget that the vast majority of the population know absolutely nothing about them at all.
