We will be visiting the Bodmin Steam Railway on Saturday 10 July, and will be back at Bodmin Parkway around 1515.

According to the Traveline South West site, and the FGW Plymouth - Penzance timetable, the Royal Duchy leaves Bodmin Parkway at 1549 and arives at Par at 1558/1559.

I've looked on the East Coast booking site and this tells me that the trains from Bodmin are at 1427 and 1645. I checked a train line powered site as well and got the same result!

Is this just an error? Or is the train not running on 10 July and the Traveline is wrong?

Something has changed on National Rail Enquiries telephone service recently thats for sure. When looking for services from "Blackburn" to "Blackpool" at around 6pm, it completely misses the 18:35 to Blackpool South, instead giving only the 18:15 and 18:44 to Blackpool North, even though it a) always used to pick it up and b) it picks up the other xx:35 services.

Well I have looked at Plymouth to Penzance and it wont give me the times for the Royal Duchy (1512-1713) or any journey off Pad (1206).

Either it isnt running (unlikely) or its been missed off the database.
Have contacted FGW and awaiting reply.

Just checked on TRUST and the 12.06 Paddington to Penzance (15.49 at Bodmin Parkway) is indeed cancelled.

Also cancelled are:

10.06 Paddington - Penzance
14.00 Penzance - Paddington
16.45 Penzance - Plymouth

The Royal Duchy is shown as calling at Bodmin at 15:49 in the printed timetables, both the FGW version (arr 15:48 ) and table 135 of the NTT:

The Paddington trains at that time have got the "R" (seat reservations recommended) symbol. The other trains you have mentioned do not. Maybe for some reason the system assumes these will be fully booked (by Bodmin a number of passengers would have left the train) so doesn't display them?
Or perhaps the database has got them recorded for set down only ???

Just rang Customer Services and it is cancelled due to engineering work (as is the 1006), but she couldn't say where it is or why the 1106, 1306 and 1406 are all running normally

With those 4 trains cancelled, I would like to see the crew workings to see how they interact!

Do you know why these trains are shown as not running? There's no info on the timetable alterations and engineering works section of the FGW site. You'd think that would warrant a mention, since it would be quite a busy train!

I thought that, and double checked the timetable for obscure notes, but there aren't any. I also doubt it would be jam packed after Plymouth, and I;m sure they run much busier trains on other parts of their network!

I can see no reason why engineering would affect these trains and find it HIGHLY unlikely that these trains will be cancelled. Very odd.

I hope it is running. Don't fancy being stuck at Bodmin Parkway for an hour and a half!

Is there a pub or anything nearby just in case? It looks pretty quiet around there from what I've seen from the train window in the past!

To be quiet honest I wouldn't trust NRE as far as I could throw it.
I took part in a online survey they were doing (may still be doing it) and completely lambasted it and the designers of the so called "New & Improved" website.

I stated that I thought it was all "Style & No Substance", with puerile & unnecessary graphics, a poor and confusing user interface, which meant the user had to do considerably more work to find out the same information as before.

The service was unreliable & regularly lagged behind what was happening in realtime, that it's malformed if you use the mobile site on any mobile device (PDA/Smartphone) & even if you get your device to use the full site when you do an enquiry it comes up with inactivity errors. I also stated that a teenager could do considerably better.

See, I pull no punches.

any chance the HST unit could be faulty for that diagram, is the hst involved in last weeks derailment at Long Rock out of service? with not enough stock to cover these diagrams, then that would be cancelled due to engineering to the rolling stock?

Have just looked on Journey Planner and these services are also not appearing on:
3rd July
17th July
24th July

Must be some kind of fault with journey planner, they can't not run these services 4 weekends in a row!

Unless the damage was very serious, then I doubt it, as other diagrams would be affected on a daily basis. A weekday service is more intensive than a Saturday one & it's running normally.

In fact an HST was used on Paignton - Cardiff a few days ago vice a LHCS set.

That far ahead , they have spare power cars and coaches so the set will probably be back in service now with just the damaged vehicles being out for repair. It is all rather strange indeed.

As said on here previously, there are currently major issues with NRs new train planning system leading to lots of missing, incorrect and even extra trains in Trust and Journeyplanners. Most LTP errors have I believed now been fixed in public facing conditions but STP alterations are still a mess in places.

It is however very poor from FGW customer services to tell passengers trains are cancelled, the issues are known about and customer services should have at least checked what engineering work is taking place (none according to FGW website) and the planned revised timetables for that week.

Are they running diversions via the Yeovil connecting spur?

That would explain why half are running and half are not.

I can confirm that these trains ARE running - they appear to have been cancelled every Saturday from 03/07 until 04/09 inclusive.

This is being looked at as a matter of urgency by FGW Train Planning / Network Rail
