Lancaster - Birmingham International

Hi all,

On Saturday 10th of March I will be travelling to the NEC for that rather famous dog show.

I want to get the first train out of Lancaster (0540)

However i'd like my return time to be flexible, as the time I leave depends on how bored I get.

Does anyone have any suggestions on splitting Off Peak Returns? I've tried places like Crewe but it isn't really cheaper.

Any Railcards? I'll look into split tickets now

Have you looked into getting a saver half return from the Virgin site? The idea being you get an advance ticket out since you want the 0540 and the saver half on the way back which is valid on off peak trains (namely any train on a Saturday)

Out: 0540 - 0819, £17.00, Advance
Rtn: £29.95 Saver Half (+Any Permitted)

I never saw those fares on the Virgin site originally as I was looking for 'Open return' tickets.

You could have bought a Super Off-Peak Day Travelcard for £45.45.
