Langley Green - Construction/Demolition Works

Does anyone know what is happening at Langley Green Station? I have seen the works from the train but not close up. I guess that they are removing the track and platform for the disused branch to Oldbury/Albright & Wilson but for what purpose?

I thought they were increasing the size of the platform (towards Birmingham), so 6 car class 172s could fit on the platform.

The track was recovered a few years ago, with the space between the disused platforms having been filled in and the footbridge replaced.

The current works are to extend the platform lengths.
