Evening all.
This is for a friends modelling project actually.
Does anyone know or have any photos of ex GWR Pannier's that held onto GWR livery into the 1950s?
I'm sure I remember seeing a picture of one in a magazine at some point. It was in faded pre BR colours with the GWR lettering still visible under the grime.

Another question to add is:
What was the sequence of liveries on tank engines?
Was it:
1920s/30s - GWR shirtbutton,
1930s/40s - The full 'Great Western' lettering,
Post war - just 'GWR'?

Any advice much appreciated.

According to a book I have on the Pannier tanks, 57xx 8700 was still in GWR shirt button logo well into BR days.

Edited as original post could be read as I own several preserved Pannier tanks, sadly not the case lol
Edit 2, 9703 was also still in GWR livery in 1962 and 8783 was in 1960.

Apologies for the poor quality but this is a photograph of 8700 in my book.

In Shirtbutton livery. That's interesting.
I wonder when it was painted last?
Sorry it doesn't say but I'll see if I can find out. The book is Great Western Railway Pannier Tanks by Robin Jones.

As at least 3 Panniers appear to have never received BR livery it looks like they weren't repainted very often

Part 14 of the RCTS History of GWR locos noted that in some cases, BR paintwork weathered away, revealing earlier liveries. Pannier tank 4628 was said to have "GWR" visible when withdrawn in 1964.

I think that some of the locos in Barry scrapyard exhibited GWR lettering through their faded paint didn't they?

Thanks.
We could do with a visit from #Taunton for his expertise... ;)
No idea :) Never saw one like this. Come to that, I don't even recall a clean one by the time I was taking notice.
