So after years of this place looking like it had been mothballed and years before that of only holding 58005 (think it was that one anyway) all of a sudden it seems to be rising like a Phoenix. It already has some 56's stored there, I believe there is a 37/9 parked round the back and the rumour is that more class 56's are heading back there.

What I don't get is why..... Why now, why have they not utilised this depot better over the last decade or more, why suddenly bring the 56's back to leicester.

Are DB Schenker looking at Leicester depot as future strategic location, is that why they were recently looking for trainee drivers at that depot.

It's just surprising that Leicester depot appeared to be dead and buried and now it appears to becoming back to life and yet I've read very little to suggest why that is the case.

I wouldn't swear to it but I thought that DBS had leased the depot out and were not actually using it as a facility themselves, I'm sure others will know far more than I do and there may well be a thread dedicated to this subject already on here

When I went past there on Thursday I saw 37906, 56106 and D1916. There was another 56 right down the back and another one inside.

Went past there this afternoon, missed a couple more 56's but managed to spot 37906, 56006 (looking resplendent in blue livery), 56069 & 56106.

That will have been on route learning duties for GBRf.

There are quite a few 56s there, only one loco there isn't a 56!
Yesterday, visible from the MML/station were, 37906 and 56006/007/065/069/104/106.
56006 recently move to LR from Barrow Hill, 56007 has been repainted into BR Blue. 56104 (and 56081) are in the process of being repainted into BR Railfreight livery. Some other 56s are inside the depot (including 56098).
Reports that some 56s are to go on hire to Freightliner.
