Hello,

Hopefully somebody can help me with a fares question...

My wife commutes from Letchworth to (near to) Old Street Station. On a morning she travels from Letchworth to Old Street via Finsbury Park, however there is no convenient equivalent return journey on an evening, therefore she has been walking to Kings Cross and getting a direct train to Letchworth from there. She is heavily pregnant and this is now becoming a bit of an issue.

With her monthly season ticket (Letchworth to London Terminals) is she allowed to get a Northern Line train from Old Street to Kings Cross, then get the train from there to Letchworth or does she need to pay for this journey separately on her Oyster Card?

Thank you!

Yes, tickets to London Terminals from stations north of Finsbury Park are valid for transfer between Kings Cross and Moorgate/Old Street. This would likewise apply in reverse.

The ticket may not work the barriers but she should be let through by staff.

The permission is given on account of the fact that FCC services don't run after 10pm in the week, or at weekends, so there has always been an agreement to use the Northern Line. My wife has done this a few times with a London Terminals ticket and all that needs to be done is you ask to be let through the gates (which do reject the ticket). LUL staff seem to know the score and don't bat an eyelid.

As an aside, has your wife got one of the FCC priority cards? My wife is 7 months pregnant but doesn't travel often enough to have bothered, but I'd very much like to know how the scheme is going (before FCC introduced this, your wife would have been allowed to travel in first class on a standard class ticket).
